Cattle Egret
On the drive back home we spotted a flock of 12 Cattle Egrets feeding in a field close to the village of Argüerín between Villaviciosa and Gijón. They are normally a very nervous bird but fortunately for us a high stonewall surrounding the field gave them some extra confidence.
We managed to watch them for 15 minutes, shooting from the car window.
I watched those some years ago in the coast of Huelva, getting along with some mules grazing near the beach. I like Cattle Egrets because of their stylish, almost zen aspect. Good pictures!
so thats what they are? I saw a flock of these (must have been at least 15) in a marshy boggy filed in El Valle Carreño – all happily feeding away. I havent seen them here before and i too had to stop and watch a while before tardiness for work made me move on.
Hi Terri. They are interesting birds, although a little nervous to get close to. We’ve also seen them at Villaviciosa, near Misiego. Thanks for stopping by.
